Object Matrix, the award winning pioneers of Object Storage to the media and entertainment industry, has announced that it plans to supply one petabyte nodes based on the all new Toshiba  MG08 16TB 3.5-inch HDD models. Object Matrix will be partnering Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH (TEE) and showcasing the Toshiba MG08 16TB HDD on its stand at NAB in Las Vegas.

The one petabyte node contains 4U 60-Bay high density storage server chassis with tool-less design features. The node can be clustered to store an impressive 10PB of RAW capacity in a single 42U rack.

The solution is based upon the Toshiba MG08 16TB 3.5-inch HDD models. Using an industry-leading 9-disk design pioneered by Toshiba, the MG08 Series provides 16TB of conventional magnetic recording (CMR) capacity and 7,200 rpm performance. The massive 16TB capacity is delivered using proven CMR recording technology providing optimum application compatibility and data reliability.

1. Definition of capacity

A terabyte (TB) is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1TB = 240 = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
